Oh Jesus, humble me so that I am like the tax collector that recognizes his sin. I want to stand before you fully aware of all the ways I fall short so that my only cry to you sounds like his: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!”
I pray that I would not be like the Pharisee, who takes pride in what he accomplishes and thinks that you like me more than you like other people. The truth is, the ground is level at the foot of the cross, and we are all in need of the same grace.
I am a sinner in need of grace.
So God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
