Jesus, you spoke from the cross, and each phrase shows us what was on your heart and you were laying down your life for us.
First, you said, “Father, forgive them.” (Luke 23:34)
As you were being tortured, beaten, spit on, and crucified, you knew those people needed forgiveness. That’s the very reason you came! Our problem of sin is far deeper than we ever realized, yet you stand ready to forgive us.
There’s no sin that can go beyond the reaches of your forgiveness. No matter how good I think I am, I’m still in need of forgiveness. No matter how bad I think I am, I’m still in the reach of your forgiveness.
